My First Day...
I'm not open yet, but I did have my first day with my first employee.
We are flying under the radar a bit as I don't have my Certificate of Occupancy...so I can't hang anything on the walls and such.
The contractor was in and The Kid is helping him...which is good since The Kid is the framer and they will be setting up the shop together.
I was a bit nervous about being a "boss" since I never did this before.
The contractor had an emergency so he didn't show up til almost 12 noon...so for 2 hours, I briefed The Kid about different things in the employee handbook. It turned out being an information exchange as he shared different challenges he faced when he was with another employer (for example...how jobs "backed up" and how he felt that could be avoided). He had a lot of really *good* questions and I was really impressed.
This guy seems really sharp and I have a good feeling about him. I am usually right, so I hope I am this time.
He did some stuff for the contractor, and then, after the contractor left, I had The Kid go through the POS tutorial and start to work on some of the exercises.
All in all...a good day...but a loooooong day.
